Continuing care
Continuity is the foundation of everything else the practice does. Long-term conditions are managed by the same doctor over years, and prescribing is reviewed as your circumstances change rather than renewed by habit.
Acute illness
Assessment, investigation and resolution within the same day, wherever the condition allows. Our practice provides patients time with their private GP to explain the problems. Your doctor examines you, tests at the point of care where a result is needed at once and sends to the laboratory for anything that is not, with most results returned before the end of the day. Imaging is arranged on site, and where a specialist opinion is needed it is with a consultant, whom your doctor collaborates with directly.
Minor procedures
A range of procedures is undertaken during the consultation rather than referred onward, in a treatment room fitted for them: excision and biopsy of skin lesions, wound closure, joint and soft tissue injection, removal of foreign bodies, cryotherapy, and ear and sinus care including microsuction under binocular microscopy, irrigation and sinus lavage. Anything requiring a theatre or a specialist is arranged within the Institute on the same day wherever possible.
Travel medicine and vaccination
Travel is prepared for in the context of your health rather than in isolation from it. A pre-travel assessment considers the itinerary against your existing conditions and medication, and provides vaccination, malaria prophylaxis and advice on altitude and expedition medicine. A travel medical kit is prepared to your itinerary and your prescriptions, and routine adult and occupational vaccination is kept current through the same record.
Coordination
Wherever care extends beyond the Institute, your doctor remains the point of coordination. Referral, whether within the Institute or externally, is made to a named specialist with your records sent ahead. External investigations are instructed and their results returned to your doctor rather than to you alone. Where a diagnosis made elsewhere warrants it, your doctor can bring in the Second opinion service. Your consultant remains responsible for your care throughout, and you are never asked to carry information between clinicians yourself.
