NAEOTOM Alpha Prime
Computed tomography builds a three-dimensional picture of the inside of the body from a series of X-ray images, revealing structures that ordinary X-rays cannot: artery walls, lung tissue and abdomen organs. It is the investigation that finds disease of the coronary arteries before it has produced a single symptom.
The NAEOTOM Alpha Prime is the first scanner to count individual photons rather than measure their combined energy, the only fundamental advance in the technology in twenty years.
It resolves finer detail at substantially lower radiation dose, and it shows what is narrowing an artery rather than merely that one is narrowed. Soft plaque is the plaque that ruptures and seeing it is the difference between knowing your risk and estimating it.

Terumo BCT Spectra Optia
The worldwide reference platform for therapeutic apheresis and the standard in hospital haematology. It separates blood into its components by continuous centrifugation and manages the interface automatically rather than by operator judgement. Its most distinctive use is lipoprotein(a): inherited, raised in roughly one person in five, untouched by diet or statins, and invisible on a standard cholesterol test. Where it is high and arterial disease is advancing, apheresis is the only treatment that lowers it.

Oxford Nanopore

Long-read sequencing, in this building, from the British company that invented it. Where conventional sequencing reads the genome in short fragments and reassembles them, this reads tens of thousands of letters in one continuous pass. That matters most for CYP2D6, the gene that governs how you metabolise roughly one in five prescribed medicines, and one of the hardest regions of the genome to read. Short-read sequencing, microarrays and conventional PCR all struggle with it, and where they struggle they guess.
Long reads resolve it. We read the full structure of CYP2D6 and every other gene considered actionable for prescribing. The result is a pharmacogenomic record you keep for life: which medicines will work at standard dose, which will not, and which should be avoided.
